Kerry Knudsen (Riverside CA/Prag):
An hour by freeway from Los Angeles in southern California are the San Bernardino and San Jacinto Mountains. Their highest peaks tower over 3000 meters between the Pacific Ocean and the great North American deserts. Kerry Knudsen of the Uni-versity of Life Sciences in Prague is a specialist in California lichen diversity. He will discuss lichen diversity in the southern California mountains, sharing beautiful pic-tures of lichens which a hundred years from now may be extirpated from this biodi-versity hotspot due to climate change and frequent catastrophic fires.
The talk will be based on the recent paper Lichen biodiversity and ecology in the San Bernardi-no and San Jacinto Mountains in southern California (U.S.A.) written with collabora-tors in Europe and North America and available for free download at:
