Im Projekt „Glossit“ analysiert Bernhard Bauer die Anmerkungen zu den Werken zur Kalenderberechnung des englischen Mönchs und Gelehrten Beda venerabilis (672–735) sowie zur lateinischen Grammatik des Byzantiner Priscian (um 500). Diese möchte er mit Methoden der elektronischen Datenverarbeitung analysieren, um den Einfluss der inselkeltischen Sprachen – also des Altirischen, des Altbretonischen und des Altwalisischen – auf das im Karolingerreich verwendete Lateinische untersuchen. Für die Forschungen erhielt Bauer einer renommierte EU-Förderung, einen ERC Consolidator Grant in der Höhe von etwa zwei Millionen Euro.
