Exercise training has positive effects on many chronic diseases. These include the global health problems of obesity, type II diabetes and other metabolic disorders, cardiovascular diseases and cancer. Individually dosed, precisely coordinated and controlled, it increases the effectiveness of drug therapy, can alleviate side effects and improve the chances of recovery. Peter Hofmann is researching the importance of physical activity and sport in the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases. He and his team are developing optimised strategies for training therapy. A new model allows the best possible control of the training load for patients, but also for healthy people.

Training scientist Peter Hofmann warns of a dangerous lack of physical activity. He knows what needs to be prescribed to avoid ending up on the autopsy table prematurely. He reveals more about this in the magazine UNIZEIT (German only).
Peter Hofmann and Gerhard Tschakert have developed a model for endurance training that takes equal account of intensity and duration for the first time. They have thus created the basis for completely personalised and efficient training sessions in order to achieve an optimal effect in the medium and long term.
