Every year, around five million people die as a result of bacterial infections. More and more pathogens are becoming resistant to antibiotics. Peptides could be a promising alternative. These small molecules, which are formed from amino acids, destroy the outer shells of bacteria. They do this so quickly and skilfully that it is unlikely that resistance will develop.
