Public international law regulates the conduct of states among each other. Within this field, Erika De Wet deals with the question how the UN Security Council and organisations such as NATO and the African Union can contribute to the prevention or cessation of wars. The UN Security Council adopts important decisions, for example concerning the imposition of international sanctions, as well as the use of force to restore international peace. As a commentator of the relevant passages of the UN Charter, De Wet points out weaknesses and potential for improvement. In the context of the Russian war of aggression, she recently analysed how Austria may support Ukraine without endangering its neutrality.
