You should be willing to ask critical questions, and to consider new perspectives. You must have already completed a first degree in a relevant subject area.
Interdisciplinary Gender Studies at the University of Graz
This master’s programme focuses on gender issues and how these relate to other factors such as ethnicity, class, (dis)ability, age and many more. You can specialise in various different areas (e.g. everyday life, politics, the economy, academic theory). The aim of this study programme is to analyse the status quo from a critical perspective, and to identify opportunities for change.

Even more future? With the new master’s modules, you can turn your master’s programme into a Master’s Plus. To be exact, this means that in two semesters you can work intensively on a future topic of your choice – be it communications, digitalization, entrepreneurship or pecebuilding and climate change.

The study programme can also be taken as a double degree in partnership with Ruhr University Bochum. You will need to spend a mandatory semester abroad (30 ECTS credit points) at the partner institution as part of your study programme.

After completing the master’s programme there is the possibility of further study in the doctoral programme. The content will be evaluated during the admission process.

As a graduate you will be able to work in many different fields, depending on the content of your bachelor’s programme, where expertise in gender issues is important. Possible career paths include anti-discrimination and equal opportunity bodies, social affairs and research, the media and cultural organisations, adult and continuing education, politics and policy advice, psychology and psychotherapy (gender-sensitive diagnostics, career counselling, advertising psychology, gender-specific trauma therapy, personal counselling, life coaching etc.).
For admission to the master’s programme you must have already completed a first degree in a relevant subject area and apply for admission.
Students are able to start the master's programme in the winter as well as the summer semester. It is recommended, though, to begin in the winter semester, since the range of courses is limited in the summer.
