It is not just our geographical closeness to Italy, but also the many native Italian speakers amongst our teaching staff that make our bachelor’s programme at the University of Graz particularly distinctive. As well as studying the Italian language, you will also learn about the literature and culture of the Italian-speaking world, and will have the chance to experience these at first hand by spending a semester abroad at one of our many partner universities.

Italian at the University of Graz

Over the course of your studies you will gain an overall understanding of the Italian language and culture, and of its regional differences and intercultural contexts. Find out the details now so things don’t get hectic later!

To ensure you can participate in all courses right from the start, you must provide proof not only of your general higher education entrance qualification but also of Italian language skills at CEFR level A2 (assessment test or language certificate). If you have successfully passed the Austrian written school leaving examination in Italian within the last 2 years, then that counts as proof of language proficiency.

During your bachelor’s studies you must also show evidence of Latin language skills (10 hours per week in the sixth form or supplementary examination). This is required to be able to take the "Abschlussmodul" in the 6th semester.
