You should be interested in language, cultural education and translation, and be keen to use your knowledge and skills in a broad range of professional settings. For admission to the master’s programme you must have already completed a subject-relevant first degree.
Translation at the University of Graz
In this study programme you will develop analytical and translation skills. It also teaches aspects of professional ethics, process and terminology management, and in-depth knowledge of translation theory and techniques.
Institute Curriculum
You can choose from the following languages:
Arabic, Bosnian/Croat/Serbian, Austrian sign language, English, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Russian, Slovenian, Spanish, Turkish.
You will study in your mother tongue/the language of instruction, which may be one of the languages listed above, and two foreign languages.

The Doctoral Programme of Philosophy allows you to broaden your research interests further and to perfect your methodological skills. You will work independently to investigate academic questions and contribute to the development of knowledge and innovation in your subject area.

Preparation for a wide range of career paths
As a graduate you will be able to work as a translator for the courts, public authorities and administrative bodies, or in cultural and academic organisations. Graduates also go on to careers in research and teaching at universities and non-university institutions, or in the media, business and technology, or as literary translators.
Anyone who is not a graduate of the subject-relevant bachelor’s programme at the University of Graz has to apply for admission to the master's programme.
